- Certainly through federal (and state) hunting regulations, but it is legal to hunt during the appropriate season. From time to time hunting has been limited on certain subspecies on certain flyways, usually due to low hatch numbers for various reasons on the nesting grounds.

- Ok, just to have full disclosure. There is a subspecies of the lion known as the Asian lion. It has a very small population, only in India. It is endangered. However this is not germain to a rational discussion of this issue. If you don't want to eat meat, that's a fine lifestyle to choose.
